A Word from Laura: Thanksgiving

Friends,

As I get ready for this Thanksgiving, I am working on my own attitude of gratitude. Without wanting to gloat, I give thanks for so much that I continue to take for granted – fresh food, health care, a warm bed at night.

Even more than those things, I give thanks for people – particularly for you, Western Church:

·       The ways you as a community are showing up on Zoom and for the ways you continue to support Miriam’s Kitchen, this time of year and always;
·       All who are making your annual pledge to Western Church, committing to the ways we continue to live into God’s love and justice;
·       A church staff who continue to relearn their positions as they adapt to changing job descriptions and new demands on their time, particularly related to technology;
·       The session and those working on our finances as they /you work to keep us faithful to our mission and financially sustainable;
·       The deacons and all who are working to keep us connected as a congregation, as they/you share our hospitality in new ways;
·       All of you who are working towards some level of antiracist work, helping us learn as individuals and as an organization how to take the next steps in our own identity;
·       All of you who are keeping our hearts and our finances focused on meeting the needs of those most in need, this year and always.

I give thanks for God who gives thanks for our faithfulness, who loves us just as we are and loves us too much to let us stay this way. Thanksgiving always means that Advent is just around the corner. This year’s Advent theme is “A Whole New World” – the new reality that we look for each time we prepare for Christ’s birth among us, needed this year as much as ever.

Join us for worship, whether on your iPad or laptop or TV or phone. As you stay connected with our community, I invite you to give thanks and to get your mind, heart, body, and soul prepared for what God has in store, this year as much as ever.

With thanksgiving,
Laura
