Organizing for What’s Next

The sessions of Western and Pilgrims met together earlier this week to begin planning fall worship, spiritual formation, mission, community creation, and stewardship. We put a lot of sticky notes on a wall of white paper, and you will soon be invited to help move us together from the wall to the world!

We organized our work around two key questions:

  • How are we announcing to the world the reign of God that Jesus proclaimed?

  • How are we living into a transformative relationship with God?

Those will be the key yardsticks by which we measure plans and programs this fall. For example, how does worship announce to the world the reign of God that Jesus proclaimed, and how does it nurture a transformative relationship with God?

I know that many of you have begun your one-on-one conversations with our siblings at Pilgrims. As you continue those, I encourage you to listen in your conversations for stories that exemplify those two questions. Listen to your own stories for your own experiences in announcing to the world the reign of God, or living into a transformative relationship with God.

Our own stories of faithful living will be how we catch the wind of the Spirit moving us into the new place God is calling us to this year.

(As a reminder, here’s the link for details and guidance for the one-on-ones. If you have not yet signed up for one-on-one conversations, please click here to do so. It’s definitely not too late, and these conversations are crucial to doing the work of the fall well together.)
